TerranearPMC, LLC (TPMC), a national environmental consulting and
remediation firm, is seeking several Radiological Control
Technicians (RCTs) to support company projects. This position will
be based at the project location, outside of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Radiological
Control Technicians (RCTs) are an integral part of the Jacobs
Radiation Protection Program serving as the main radiological work
force. Fully qualified RCTs (designated as “Seniors”) are trained
and qualified by the RSO and are permitted to perform duties and
responsibilities unsupervised with subsequent review by the RSO, or
designee. RCTs in training (designated as “Juniors”) have limited
experience performing radiation protection duties and are not
qualified to perform most duties and responsibilities without
direct supervision by at least a Senior RCT; specifically
unrestricted release surveys and DOT radiological shipping surveys.
An RCT will : Perform required radiological surveys for free
release of materials at radiological controlled areas, personnel
surveys for contamination and contamination control, airborne
radioactivity control. Perform work area and perimeter air
monitoring activities and support the personnel and perimeter
dosimetry program. Provide radiological work coverage, prepare
Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), enforce radiological control
requirements, ensure ALARA principles are followed during work and
respond to radiological emergencies, as required. Validate safe
conduct of radiological work. Survey waste material, excess
materials, vehicles, and other materials, as needed. Serve as
radiological oversight mentors and advisors to Jacobs’ personnel
conducting the radiological work. Perform ongoing radiological
control surveillance and assessments. Maintain radiological
instrumentation including daily performance checks, calibrations,
and maintenance. Operate radiological field instruments and
counting instruments in accordance with approved procedures and
manufacturer’s operating manuals. Maintain proficiency and
qualifications through completion of work, self-study, and
training. Provide work coverage and oversight for maintenance,
operational, and routine work that involves radioactivity on the
SLDA site. Provide monitoring for Radiation Areas, Contamination
Areas, and Airborne Activity Areas in the work area/place as
required by the RPPg. Oversight and verification of all work
performed by a Junior RCT. Preferred Qualifications/Experience :
Senior RCT High School diploma (GED minimum). DOE Core
Certification, NRRPT, vocational college certification or an
associate degree or equivalent in radiation protection is
preferred. At least two (2) years’ documented experience providing
radiological coverage and monitoring for moderate dose/ moderate
contamination environments on DOE, NRC, or USACE regulated
remediation projects or similar work environments. Completion of
the DOE Radiological Control Standard Core or
qualifications/experience consistent with ANSI/ANS-3.1. Junior RCT
High School diploma (GED minimum). At least one (1) year documented
experience equivalent to Radiological Worker II in moderate dose/
moderate contamination environments on either DOE, NRC or USACE
regulated remediation projects or similar work environments.
Special Requirements All RCTs must be able to qualify and wear a
respirator, pass the medical monitoring/physical exam requirements,
pass the beryllium sensitivity test, and meet the SLDA site
security requirements. Bachelor’s degree in physical science,
engineering, mathematics, computer science, or accounting that
included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related
engineering science, or Special Requirements All RCTs must be able
to qualify and wear a respirator, pass the medical
monitoring/physical exam requirements, pass the beryllium
sensitivity test, and meet the SLDA site security requirements.
General Ideally, candidates will be located within driving distance
to the SLDA site; work well independently & as a member of a team
in a dynamic outdoor work environment Successful candidates will
represent TPMC in interactions with project personnel and the
client. Successful candidates will apply their experience,
education, and effort to effectively implement the radiation safety
program at the project site and deliver high-quality health physics
