Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with typical stepdown type patients Description: The unit has 18 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Nitroglycerine (up to 150 mcg/kg/min), Neo (up to 100 mcg/min), and Cardene (up to 10 mg/hr). A charge nurse and house supervisor are available, but the charge nurse typically does not take an assignment. One patient care technician is assigned per shift. BiPAP and CPAP are available as respiratory equipment. All patients are monitored, and RNs are responsible for reading strip data. The department may offer some flexibility in scheduling but does not guarantee self-scheduling or block scheduling. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements follow a schedule that typically involves every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating may occur as needed. Royal scrubs are worn as a part of the dress code. Additional department-specific orientation will be provided.
