Must-Have: - Ability to work both night shifts and rotating shifts.
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. - Proficient
in titrating drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine,
Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin. Description: This
position is for a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit.
Shifts may be either nights or a rotation of day and night.
Rotating shifts are preferred, with an average schedule of three
weeks of days and three weeks of nights. You will generally not
work both shifts in the same week unless there is a break in the
schedule. The unit has 30 beds, a mix of private and semi-private
rooms. Ideally, nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4, but they typically
operate with a ratio of 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6. Charge nurses
take a full patient assignment during shifts and have support from
clinical assistants. There are usually 2-3 nursing assistants with
ratios of 1:10-12. Weekend shifts are required, typically working
four weekend shifts within a four-week schedule. Staff must be
flexible regarding holiday coverage, although most holiday shifts
are managed by permanent staff. Registered nurses wear navy blue
tops and bottoms, along with navy scrub jackets. Telemetry
technicians are available, but nurses must be able to read and
interpret their own cardiac monitors. Respiratory therapies are
managed by the respiratory therapy team, which is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Nurses must be prepared
to float to other units as needed, including to the pandemic unit.
Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, heart failure,
arrhythmias, and post-procedural care. Nurses should be prepared to
manage various patient needs including those on Tikosyn therapy.
