Must-Have: - 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience - Comfortable with
cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips - Ability to titrate drips
Description: The unit has a total of 30 beds. Nurse to Patient
Ratios are 1:4-6, depending on acuity. Common diagnoses include
cardiac patients, post pneumonia, post cath lab, seizures, and
ETOH. CIWA protocols and pacemaker management are part of the care
provided. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as cardizem,
amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax. There is
a Charge Nurse on each shift. The day shift Charge Nurse does not
take a patient assignment unless necessary. The night shift Charge
Nurse will take a lighter patient assignment. There are nurse
aids/patient care techs available on the unit. Their duties include
assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring vitals, and
answering call lights. The hospitalist and intensitivist are
available in-house 24/7, while a primary attending is on-duty with
on-call support at night. Respiratory therapy is available around
the clock and is assigned to the unit. Nurses are expected to
troubleshoot respiratory equipment; respiratory therapists manage
treatment and equipment. There are Tele/Monitor Techs available
24/7, but nurses are also required to read and interpret monitoring
strips. Shifts are structured to allow for self-scheduling,
allowing nurses to create an ideal work schedule. Weekend
requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday
requirements may include rotation for holidays. There is no call or
standby requirement for this position. Traveling nurses can float
to any inpatient unit, with priority given to them for floating.
The dress code for this position is navy blue scrubs. Two days of
general orientation are provided with one day spent with a
preceptor. The charting system used is Cerner. A BSN is not
required for this position. This is an acute care setting within
the nursing division. The position involves night shifts, with
