Job Description:
Job Description UPMC is hiring an Informatics Nurse I(RN) to
join their Clinical Informatics team. The hiring manager is looking
for an Informatics Nurse who has strong competency in EHR systems
(EPIC), clinical credibility, and excellent leadership and

Work Location: Hybrid (on-site PRN, no prescriptive quantity,
approximate expectation 3 days/week). WFH – “office base” not
required but will be required to go on-site to support clinicians
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, primarily dayshift hours, 8:00am -
4:30pm. Occasional need for flexibility during early mornings and
evenings. Occasional weekends and holidays. Purpose: Under the
direction of the Director, Clinical and Operational Informatics
(DCOI), the Informatics Nurse I has the responsibility and
accountability of assessing and assisting in the investigation,
development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to
clinical practice, and serving as a liaison for end users and the
Informatics division. Informatics Nurse I participates on project
teams to ensure a successful, on time go live. He/she develops and
maintains project deliverables in accordance with application
project goals. He/she gathers and communicates data to the
Informatics Nurse II, DCOI or other as requested. Focus Areas –

Leads New Provider Orientation Support Documentation Specialists
(DMO, Abridge AI, Haiku/Canto, Transcription) Mobile Device
Solutions Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solutions Responsibilities:
Assess clinical information and workflow needs. Epic efficiency &
proficiency training (Epic optimization). Liaison between
providers/IT/leadership · Support training, adoption, change
management. Support Informatics project and strategy. Assumes
responsibility as assigned to assist with the continuous
improvement projects and maintenance of the eRecord. Participates
in research activities, submits abstracts for presentation at
local, regional and national conferences/professional meetings,
submit articles for publications, and/or participate in
community/volunteer activities. Participates upon request in system
application validation. Is empowered to engage appropriate health
care personnel and eRecord team members as issues arise. Identifies
and communicates learning needs to appropriate manager. Prior to
performing new or challenging skills, requests assistance and
reviews relevant policies and procedures. Participates in
interdepartmental and system activities to encourage communication.
Provides informatics mentorship at the unit/dept level helping to
develop an interest in informatics. Forms a partnership with end
users to maintain an open dialogue for continuous feedback and
quality improvement. Creates a work environment to promote flow of
ideas for improvement of the eRecord. Maintains membership on, or
consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed
to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of development,
implementation, and revision of the clinical information system.
Participates in Informatics Professional organization activities to
enhance personal growth and cultivate relationships in the field at
a regional and national level. Performs all other job-related
activities as assigned. Conducts education program for all levels
of end users in new and upgraded applications. May educate at the
system or local level as directed by the Informatics nurse II or
DCOI. Performs work in a timely and productive manner and meets
defined deadlines. Assists in review of nursing policies to align
with the eRecord technology. Takes action to improved knowledge,
skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified
developmental needs and provides similar feedback to co-workers.
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally
and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions,
enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to patients and colleagues.
Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds
peers accountable for healthy relationships. Maintains a conscious

Communicates by preparing and educating at all levels the various
types of functionality impact to the end users' workflow. This
communication may include but not limited to the creation of
articles for publications, uLearn, or any educational venue.
Demonstrates basic knowledge of system and local technology
applications and the integration of these systems in regard to the
impact to the end user. Participates in Informatics Council, both
local and system level. Assists in preparation of agendas,
handouts, and documents meeting minutes. Active participant in
assigned committees and work groups with communication back to
informatics team/DCOI. Collects and assembles data for the purpose
of evaluation of EHR projects. Show proficiency in running explorer
menu reports. Objectively observes and educates end users utilizing
unit rounds to identify ongoing educational needs regarding
clinical documentation issues, patient care challenges, and
software application upgrades. Prioritizes issues and reports them
accordingly. Active participant in staff workflow assessment in
clinical informatics projects. Provides support to DCOI by setting
meetings and establishing groups for resolution of EHR assessment.
Functions as an internal consultant, resource person, and educator
to all levels of personnel in accordance with the objectives of the
informatics department. Supports change initiatives at the local
and system level as directed by the Informatics Nurse II or DCOI.
Graduate of an approved school of nursing for registered nurses.
Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing experience required. BSN

Preferred Experience: EPIC experience (all care settings). Prior or
Current work experience as an Improvement specialist, quality nurse
coordinator, informatics, analyst. Current or Past UPMC employee or
contractor. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certification required within 3 years of informatics employment
(ANCC Nursing Informatics or CPHIMS) Employees practicing in
Pennsylvania: Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered
Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure
Employees practicing in Maryland: Current Maryland RN License
required. Registered Nurse (RN) *Current licensure either in the
state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a
state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)
agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC
state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC
license who later change their residency to the state where the
facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their
