Description A Flatbed Broker Specialist arranges specialized transportation for heavy, oversized, or irregularly shaped cargo using flatbed trailers. They act as a logistics intermediary, matching shippers with qualified carriers, negotiating rates, handling complex permitting/regulations, and monitoring shipments to ensure safe, on-time delivery of specialized freight. Key Responsibilities Carrier Sourcing & Vetting: Sourcing reliable carriers with specific flatbed equipment (e.g., standard flatbeds, hotshots, extendable, multi-axle trailers) to meet project requirements. Logistics & Project Planning: Planning routes for specialized loads, which may involve complying with strict Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for overweight or oversized, cargo. Load Tracking & Communication: Providing real-time updates to customers, tracking shipments, and troubleshooting, often managing 24/7 service requirements. Regulatory Compliance: Managing permits for oversized loads and ensuring safety compliance. Negotiation & Pricing: Qualifications Required Skills Deep Industry Knowledge: Understanding of flatbed equipment, capacity, and specialized handling requirements. Communication & Negotiation: Strong verbal and written skills to manage relationships with shippers and carriers. Problem-Solving: Ability to handle issues like weather delays, load requirements, or equipment breakdown.
