Job Description:

Responsible to Fiscal Services for the accounting records of Steward Health Care and oversight of the accounts payable and payroll department.# To provide direction and mentoring to staff responsible for maintaining systems procedures to insure the financial statements are prepared and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and to ensure that all entities maintain compliance with current tax legislation as it relates to payroll and accounts payable.# Responsible to the customer for courteous, accurate, timely service. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor#s degree in Accounting required. ## Master#s degree in Business Administration preferred.# Previous experience as a manager in Accounting required. Requires up to four years# experience on this or related jobs in a hospital or healthcare facility. Current Ohio license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the AICPA required.# RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES## Provides leadership and direction to staff to ensure the timely and accurate closing of financial systems and preparation, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), of financial statements and reports for distribution to internal and external users on a monthly and year-end basis. Develops, implements and maintains internal controls, accounting systems, policies and procedures necessary for providing the complete, accurate and timely records required to: safeguard assets, accurately monitor financial transactions, provide appropriate information to external agencies and monitor performance against corporate financial benchmarks and related objectives. Provides oversight to the managers of accounts payable and payroll to ensure their respective department function maintains adequate internal controls/processes to safeguard assets; meets deadlines for check issuance; and are compliant with federal, state, and local laws/regulations and wage/hour law compliance. Provides assistance to the VP of Finance/Corporate Controller related to: Board of Trustees and related Board Committee presentations; and system-wide communications (i.e., Corporate Communications) that apprise Steward employees of changes made to Fiscal Services policies and procedures. In conjunction with Internal Audit (Corporate Director), assists in performing review of ALL contracts being entered into.# This review will consist of:# coordination of meeting with respective management personnel to determine the adequacy of managements understanding of the contract and the related measures (i.e., processes/procedures, policies) management are required to have in place (PRIOR TO CONTRACT APPROVAL) to monitor allocation of resources. Ensures that the capital process, policies and procedures are being followed in order to monitor the allocation of resources in connection with the approved capital budget. Works in conjunction with the Budget Team to prepare and review operating and capital budgets and monitor allocation of resources. On an as needed basis, attends and assists in making presentations to the Board of Trustees; related Board Committees; WRCS and TRMC Management conferences and/or other meetings, as deemed necessary. Coordinates the gathering of and preparing for year-end audit of financial statements, audit of pension trust and audit of federal grants by independent auditors. Assist managers to improve their knowledge of and adherence to financial policies and procedures. Proficiency in accounting principles and techniques by keeping current on new healthcare issues and accounting pronouncements, in order to assess the operational/financial impact on Steward Health Care.# Assist with providing leadership, mentoring and direction to the Fiscal Services Department to ensure the department#s continued ethics and integrity. Completes performance appraisals on time based on policy.
