MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

Pay Range: $17.27 - $21.63 per hour

*Paid Holidays, Vacation, and Leave Days

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible to perform unskilled or semi-skilled work without supervision using independent judgment
  • Responsible for assisting multi tech trades, mechanics, secondary building engineer and elementary building head custodian, custodians
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned areas
  • Responsible for snow plowing and salting parking lots
  • Responsible for minor repair of all buildings and equipment
  • Responsible for diagnosing and minor repair of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Responsible for minor carpentry including framing, drywall and trim work
  • Responsible for performing preventative maintenance of univent systems
  • Responsible for minor masonry and concrete repairs
  • Responsible for painting walls, ceilings, doors, frames and trim
  • Responsible for installing and repairing doors, windows and hardware
  • Responsible for landscaping including plant material installation, mulching, pruning and care
  • Responsible for lawn maintenance including mowing and trimming
  • Responsible for the care, maintenance and game striping of all athletic fields
  • Responsible for maintaining stock of repair parts, or purchasing new when needed
  • Responsible for maintaining building fire alarm, fire suppression and security systems
  • Responsible for district mail run, pickup and delivery as needed
  • Responsible to write, edit and complete online work orders
  • Responsible for assisting with moving and transporting furniture, band instruments, appliances and equipment
  • Responsible to coordinate work with building personnel and Director of Facilities and Transportation, so that repair projects do not interfere with classroom operations
  • Responsible to be aware of and follow MIOSHA Safety and Health Standards at all times while performing the duties of this position
  • Responsible to guard property against fire, floods, theft and illegal entry
  • Responsible for related duties as assigned Requirements
    • High School Graduate. College or trade school classes preferred.
    • Valid driver's license. Will be required to drive trucks with 24' long tandem trailers.
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds including cement and mortar bags. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds including pushing and pulling items such as tables, desks and cabinets.
    • The employee must be able to sit for up to eight (8) hours in a plow truck or on a lawn mower. In addition, these tasks will require the employee to continuously turn their neck to look in all directions.
    • The employee must have good organizational skills and be able to independently sort, prioritize and complete work orders with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work from ladders, personnel lifts and scaffolding up to 50' high
    • Ability or willingness to learn to operate large equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, tractors and scissor lifts
    • Must have ability or willingness to learn computer skills for completing online work orders.
    • Must have ability to solder pipes and install valves and plumbing fixtures, install electrical switches, outlets, ballasts and breakers and be prepared to demonstrate this ability
    • Ability to use hand tools and power tools proficiently and be prepared to demonstrate this ability
    • Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance
    • Be able to read and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and cleaning chemical labels
    • Be neat in appearance
    • Must make every effort to be available for emergency and overtime assignments with proper notice
    • Must be willing to attend seminars and in-service training
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
